A young land developer returns to his childhood home in the Chinese countryside for the first time in a decade to convince his stubborn father to finally sell the failing family plum orchard. When the two struggle to understand one another, they turn to an old karaoke machine to find a common language.
Kelly Yu is a Swedish-born, New Orleans raised, Chinese-American writer and director. Kelly’s work is driven by a distinct voice and visual style shaped by her experiences navigating three different cultures. Her work is motivated by a deep fascination with finding humanity in the absurd, as well as exploring complex familial relationships and cultural identity often through an "east-meets-west" lens. Kelly holds a B.F.A from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and is currently in development on her debut feature film, Familyland. Outside of filmmaking, she operates her own production company and provides freelance photo/editing/video production work for nationally recognized clients.
