Reggie Jackson

Reggie Jackson, who has Down Syndrome, was orphaned when his mother unexpectedly died. Unable to live on his own, Reggie went to stay with his distant cousin Fred Buckle as a temporary solution. Aware he needed more support, Fred and Violet searched for other care options and found the Glasshouse Trust, a community in the countryside for young adults with all kinds of disabilities, who live and work together.

Reggie enjoys his newfound independence and is a regular visitor back in Poplar. A keen gardener, and he is often enlisted by Fred to help out with various schemes, not all of which meet with Violet's approval. Reggie also strikes up a close friendship with Cyril, and is even asked to serve as his best man at his and Lucille’s wedding.

Following the traumatic train crash in Season 11, Fred, Reggie, and Cyril team up to put on a charity talent show. Instead of just helping out with the behind-the-scenes planning, Reggie takes center stage in a performance that showcases his musical prowess.

In Season 12 when Reggie visits Poplar, Fred and Violet notice him appearing unlike his usual self – tired, dismissive, and unsociable. Cyril eventually convinces Reggie to confide in him, and it turns out Reggie has been feeling physically unwell of late. A quick visit to Dr. Turner reveals that Reggie has an underactive thyroid, but fortunately, with medicine, Reggie will be able to gather back his energy and carry on as usual.
