Shelagh (Laura Main) and Joyce (Renee Bailey) become involved with a heavily pregnant woman whose flat, despite being in a relatively new tower block, is riddled with mold. Her little girl becomes desperately unwell and Sister Veronica (Rebecca Gethings) becomes involved as health visitor. She brings the case to Violet’s (Annabelle Apsion) attention which further strengthens her political resolve and Violet decides to run for Mayor in the upcoming election. The case also challenges Cyril (Zephryn Taitte) who is called to inspect the crumbling tower block and resolves to commit his life to making a difference to others by pursuing a career in social work.
Elsewhere, Nancy (Megan Cusack) becomes involved in a worrying medical case with a young Sylethi woman who is diagnosed with a rare and serious metabolic disorder. Impressed by her, Nancy determines to stick her own neck out and attend an RCN Raise the Roof Campaign meeting against some of her peers wishes.
Trixie (Helen George) has been struggling with the long bus commute to her West End home and decides that she should learn to drive. Matthew (Olly Rix) is a terrible teacher and his lessons are a disaster so she starts taking secret lessons from Fred (Cliff Parisi).
