Buckle’s paper shop is open early as Fred (Cliff Parisi) readies to send the paperboys on their rounds. One of the boys is under extreme pressure to support his father and younger siblings and becomes unwell. At the same time, Sister Veronica (Rebecca Gethings) spearheads a new council initiative which is an opportunity to monitor the health of working children in the borough.
As Trixie (Helen George) and Matthew (Olly Rix) continue to grieve, Trixie is thrown into a challenging case involving an underage mother. She is also behind with wedding preparations and is humbled by the support of the Nonnatus team.
Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt) is at a loss when the Nonnatus team go about their duties and she is left all alone. However, solace and company come in an unlikely form which gives her a new spring of life and she lets Colette (Francesca Fullilove) into the secret.
